Try To Prevent It!

You are probably familiar with the saying; prevention is better than cure. It is often used in relation to health. But it can also be applied to household problems, especially about pieces of furniture. You already know who can cause the problem of having pee on your sofa: children and pets. So you must do whatever you can to avoid your child and pets from peeing in places they shouldn’t be peeing.

What if You Have Pets

If you have pets, then the best thing to do is to train your furry friends. If you have a cat, then make sure that it knows how to use a cat litter. You should also clean your cat litter regularly. If you have a dog, then you should take it out often or have a designated spot in your house where it can do its “business.”

Or if your pet is prone to having accidents, then have it wear a diaper, especially if it is playing in your living room. Taking precautionary measures like the ones described above can go a long way in preventing your pets from peeing on your sofa. You may need to invest some money in some of the measures mentioned above, but they are worth it. Would you rather buy diapers for your dog or have stinky pee on your couch?

What if You Have Babies

For babies, there are also some measures you can do to prevent them from peeing on your couch. Before you put down babies on the sofa, you need to make sure that they are wearing diapers. For extra precaution, don’t place babies directly on the couch.

Get a blanket or a mat that can serve as a barrier if ever the baby pees. Never change diapers on the sofa to avoid some of the pee from spilling on the couch. If you really must change diapers on the sofa, then again, you need to make sure to cover it with a blanket or mat first.

If you have kids or pets, you just generally have to be mindful. This is the best way to prevent them from peeing on your modern couch. Or instead you could put on your sofa a waterproof sofa cover, this is also a great choice for a damp basement. It may seem like a lot of work but getting pee on your couch is even more complicated.

How to Get Pee Out of Sofa: Don’t Beat Yourself When It Happens

But you can only do so much to prevent it from happening. You need to just accept it as part of life. In some days, for example, your child might get sleepy while playing in the living room or watching TV and decides to sleep on the couch. What are you going to do? You have the option to ask the to go to bed or let them sleep on the couch.

You can’t scold the child from peeing while sleeping. You just need to find a solution to the problem, Since you can't leave them wearing diapers for a very long time. It can happen to pets too. Sometimes, in their excitement, pets can also pee accidentally.

If this happens while the animal in on your couch, then you have a problem. The problem with pee is that because it is liquid, it tends to spread on the whole sofa, and before you grab a paper towel, it will be absorbed in the sofa cushions. Not to mention that pee also smells terrible.

It is Possible to Get Pee Out of Couch

Accidentally getting urine on your couch is hard to avoid, but getting rid of pee is not a problem. Yes, if there is pee on your (someone peed on your couch unfortunately), the good news is there are things you can do to get rid of the blot.

You can also get rid of the smell. But you need to distinguish between an old stain and a new one. Because each requires a different way of cleaning, ideally, you should get rid of pee immediately to avoid staining. But there are times when you just notice the stain a day or two or even a week after an accident occurs.

It is Not Difficult to Get Rid of Pee

Be it old or new, pee on the sofa is not impossible to get rid of. Here in this article, you will learn some of the most effective ways to get your sofa to looking (and smelling) like new again. The best thing about my method is that it don’t require any special equipment.

Most probably, you already have everything you need in your home to get rid of pee on your sofa. If it’s not in your home, for sure, you can easily find it in any grocery store or supermarket. You do not have to spend a small fortune to remove pee stains and odor from your sofa. There is no need for you to call a professional cleaner either. You can do it yourself with the help of cheap household cleaning items.

Removing Fresh Pee From Sofa Fabric

After your pet or child pees on your sofa, you need to act fast. You need to soak up as much of the urine as possible to avoid it from spreading and from forming a stain.

Step 1

You need to get an old rag or people tower to absorb as much as possible. It doesn’t matter what part of the sofa got soaked, and you need to get as much pee off as quickly as possible. If the cushion is removable, then you can remove it and quickly dry it up. You need to do this to save you trouble later. You’ll be thanking yourself later once you are in the cleaning stage already. The key is to make the sofa or cushions as dry as possible.

Step 2

The next step is to deodorize your sofa. This is a very important step. Often, the smell of urine lingers even after removing the stain. You don’t want your sofa to smell like urine. It will be annoying for you and embarrassing if you have guests in the house.

Fortunately for you, you don’t have to buy anything special products to remove the smell of urine. White vinegar is a very effective deodorizer. You just need to mix four parts of water to 1-part vinegar and then just use the mixture to clean your couch. Some of you may be thinking that the vinegar’s smell itself is pretty bad, but the truth is, it doesn’t leave any smell. That is why you can even use it for laundry. You also don’t need to buy any particular brand of white vinegar, any brand will do.

You just need to rub the vinegar to the spot where there is pee with the use of a rag. Just scrub the spot until you feel that you have covered the whole area. Soak the entire spot if needed to make sure that you do not leave out any place with pee. lemon is also a natural deodorizer But you need to be careful while using it because it can cause fading of the upholstery fabric.

Step 3

The third step is about removing residual odor and moisture and getting your couch back to its original shape. For this stage, you will need baking soda and lavender essential oil or another essential oil that is fragrant enough.

Baking soda is a very good deodorizer, combined with lavender essential oil, it can restore your couch to its old glory. All you need to do is to take about 1 cup of baking soda or an amount that covers the pee spot on your couch. Then just add around 15 to 20 drops of lavender essential oil for every cup of baking soda.

You may adjust the amount based on your preference. Blend the mixture evenly with a fork or whisk. When finished, just sprinkle the baking soda and lavender essential oil mixture liberally over the pee spot on your couch.

Step 4

In the fourth step, you just need to let the baking soda and lavender essential oil mixture for a few hours or overnight to dry out. This is to let the mixture soak up and absorb the odor. After letting the mixture sit, just vacuum it all up. If you are not fully satisfied with the results, just repeat the process. This process is very useful and should make your sofa look and smell as good as new or even better since now it even has a lavender scent.

The above process describes an effective yet inexpensive way to get rid of pee stain and smell on your sofa. But it only works if the pee is fresh. What if you have old pee stains on your sofa? Should you just resign to the prospect of living with a pee-stained and pee-smelling sofa for the rest of your life? Should you just get a new sofa? The answer to both questions is a big NO. You can still do something about old pee stains on your couch and the process is described in the steps below. Like the process above, this one is also for the frugal and busy homeowners out there who simply want a clean and nice-smelling sofa.

Getting Rid of Old Pee Stains

Similar to removing fresh urine stains, the process involved in getting rid of old pee stains also makes use of everyday household products. Again, there is no need for you to go out and buy special cleaning products and spend money. If you are a frugal person who takes delight in saving money, then you'll get excited by the methods described below.

For those who have given up on old urine stains on their sofas that they can’t seem to eliminate, this one's for you as well. It’s a good thing that you didn't throw out or replace that sofa just yet. You can make it look brand new again, while all this time you were thinking your sofa was hopeless. Just follow the steps below, and you will be able to get the stain off in no time. It is good for all sofa fabric (obviosuly including microfiber) and also leather.

Step 1

The first thing you need to do is to get a bowl. Then in that bowl, you need to mix 10 ounces of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, 2-3 drops of dishwashing liquid, and three tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate or baking soda. Please, do not confuse baking soda with baking powder.

If you use baking powder here, it will be a completely different mixture, and it will not have the desired results. Mix the three ingredients thoroughly until the baking soda is completely dissolved. Now you have your homemade cleaning agent that can get rid of even the toughest stains, including pee stains.

The best thing about the mixture is that it is also a deodorant. It can get your sofa smelling like new again as well. You can conveniently use your mixture, pour it in a spray bottle. If you do not have a spray bottle use a sponge instead.

hydrogen peroxide

Step 2

Since you are using hydrogen peroxide, you need to know that it can cause discoloration on some fabrics. So before using your homemade cleaner, you need to test it first on an inconspicuous part of the sofa. Spray some of the mixture on that part and let it dry.

Then after a few minutes, check on the fabric and see if it has changed color. If not, then that means it is safe to use your mixture on your couch. Now you can proceed to use it to get rid of the pee stain on your sofa. Be ready to be amazed because you have just created a powerful cleaning agent.

Step 3

Spray the mixture directly to the stained part of the sofa. Let the solution sit for an hour. After an hour, check the sofa if it still has stains. If you are not satisfied with the results, repeat the process. After removing the stain, you need to rinse away the extra solution from your sofa. You can do this by getting a damp towel and dabbing the area.

Then finish off by blotting the spot with a dry towel or 2 towels or cloth until all the liquid is gone. Rinsing off the extra solution is a very important step that you should not neglect doing. Over time, the residue of the mixture will start to attract dirt. Rinsing will also remove excess hydrogen peroxide from your sofa that may cause discoloration and weakening of the fabric.

If, after several tries and you see no improvement on your sofa, then that is the time that you should resort to calling a professional cleaner. That is how to get urine out of couch if home remedies do not work. But we repeat, you do not have to throw away your sofa just because of a pee stain that you cannot seem to treat. A few easy tips and tricks are all you need for a good-looking sofa that is clean and odors good.
